NFL 8/18/09
I'll start first with the old news that is on my mind and that is Mike Vick. Everyone is debating on weather or not he should or shouldn't have been givin a second shot. Well I personally see it that it could go either way, however think as far as the NFL goes, the NFL needs him. The NFL needs his athleticism and excitement that he will bring for the "wildcat" offense and also the gateway to the "spread" offense. It isn't as important for the "wildcat", it just gives some one with a little more athleticism in the backfield, as it is for the "spread". The reason he is important for the spread is for the "Tebow Factor" of the NFL draft. It is to big of a shame that some one of the talent of a Tim Tebow to drop from a first round pick to a second or even as low as a fourth round pick because he is a spread offense Qb. The spread offense produced over 5,000 yards passing for Grahem Harrel in the Texas Tech offense, however he went undrafted and is now in the CFL. The spread offense forces the deffense to open up and LBs to cover receivers and to be faster. With the LBs being faster in the NFL it is causing there to be less time in the pocket and less time to get the ball down field anyways therefore it is the perfect time for the spread offense. It was reported earlier this summer that Urban Myer said that at least three NFL teams contacted him in regards to plays of the spread offense, but would not comment on which teams. I would venture to take a guess that Philly was one of them. Now with Vick's ability to drop back and get quick passes off or take off, it makes a perfect gateway to the spread and for next years draft when Tebow comes out.
